SEO for CPA and Accounting firms

SEO for accounting firms and CPAs

More of the right clients. Enough work to hire.

SEO For Accountants works with accounting firms and CPA practices nationwide – firms that already have strong reviews, want to grow, and are ready to add staff. Established practices and fast-growing ones. The job is to show up in search for the work those firms actually want.

Client study

Kane Tax & Accounting booked $25,250 from accountant SEO in month two.

Kane was getting about 40 visitors a month before the engagement. Month one was the rebuild and the SEO foundation – a new website plus twelve city pages built for smaller markets the firm could actually win. Month two it launched. The city pages ranked fast where competition was thin, traffic climbed to close to 200 a month, and the calls started coming from towns the firm had never shown up in. $25,250 booked that month, with more in the pipeline. The firm's own numbers. Not a composite.

  1. 01

Month 1: Website + SEO foundation

A full rebuild, plus the groundwork – twelve city pages written for smaller markets, on-page SEO, the technical base. Nothing live yet. The foundation.

  2. 02

    Month 2: Launch

The site went live and the city pages ranked fast in thin-competition markets. Traffic went from about 40 a month to close to 200, and every dollar below came in this month – $25,250 booked.

  3. Next

    Coeur d'Alene

The small markets fund the climb while the work builds the authority to rank in the market the firm actually wants.

Who this is for

SEO for accounting firms that already have a practice. Four things have to be true.

The work is for accounting firms and CPA practices that want to grow, are ready to hire, and already have the reviews.

  1. 01

    The firm wants to grow

More of the work worth staffing – business clients, advisory, engagements that pay. Not another year of the same low-value returns, just louder.

  2. 02

A hire is on the table

The team is already busy, or it will be. A new seat only makes sense if search is sending work that pays for it.

  3. 03

    The reviews are already there

The town already trusts the firm. Google should send the same caliber of client – not people shopping for the cheapest 1040.

  4. 04

    The practice is real

Ten years in, or two years in and demand is already there. Either way this is a going concern. Search and the website should match that.

Accounting firm SEO does not happen because the town already trusts you.

Firms lose work to competitors with a louder Maps listing and a thin website. The practice can be excellent and still look average in search.

The wrong traffic is costly. It fills the calendar with work that should be declined, wears out the team, and delays the hire. The job here is to connect the reputation the firm already has with the people looking for that firm online.

Process

Accountant SEO: website, city pages, Google Maps, then AI search. In that order.

The money pages get rebuilt so they convert. Then city pages for the towns that can rank. Then the Google listing. Then the firm starts showing up when a prospect asks ChatGPT for a CPA. Not a separate product.

  1. 01

    The website

Start with the pages that bring in work: homepage, service pages, and the city pages already on the site. Each one is built around the path a prospect actually takes – trust first, a call to action that is easy to hit. WordPress stays if that is what the firm has. Layout and copy get fixed. URLs get one standard structure so Google and AI search tools can find every page. On-page SEO on each page, not a coat of paint.

  2. 02

    City pages

Then new pages for the smaller towns the firm can actually win. Each one is written for that city – the services, the local detail – not a template with the name swapped. Those pages rank fast in smaller markets. Some of them rank almost immediately. Later, more cities, and pages that pair a service with a town when the search is that specific.

  3. 03

    Google Maps

The Google Business Profile is what puts the firm on the map. Categories, the services the practice actually sells, and a written description on each one – not the stubs Google fills in from reviews. Name, address, and phone matched on the local and accounting listings. Review velocity pushed ahead of whoever is already ranking. Edits go out on a schedule, so Google does not treat the listing like a new business.

  4. 04

Show up when a prospect asks ChatGPT for a CPA

A prospect who asks ChatGPT for a CPA nearby should hear the firm's name back. That answer converts harder than a cold Google click. The work is to get named in those answers – through the site, the listing, the reviews, and the sources those tools already cite. ChatGPT, Grok, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude, Copilot, and Google AI Overviews all pull from different places. That is part of the SEO, not a side project.

How the first months run

  1. 01Month 1 · 6–8 weeks

    Foundation

Maps, the site, and the listings. This is the base for Google Maps, Google search, and the moment a prospect asks an AI tool for a CPA.

    • Google Business Profile, on a schedule
    • Rebuild the money pages – homepage, services, cities
    • New site structure. On-page SEO. Migration if the domain is moving.
    • Clean the listings. Start building the accounting ones.
  2. 02Month 2

    Launch

The site goes live. Smaller markets start to rank. City pages go up. The AI-search work starts so the firm is named when a prospect asks ChatGPT for a CPA.

    • Site live and indexed – the easier towns first
    • New batches of city pages
    • Listings keep getting built. Real links start.
    • Sources those AI tools already cite – listicles, Yelp, and the rest
  3. 03Month 3 onward

    Authority

More pages. More listings. More links. The site keeps getting harder to knock off the map – and the firm keeps showing up when someone asks an AI tool for a CPA.

    • More city pages, and other pages as they are needed
    • Listings and link building continue
    • Keep showing up in the AI answers prospects actually read

Tom is an absolute killer. It's hard to know if an SEO agency knows their stuff, and there's a lot of guys that say they know what they're doing and actually suck. Tom is the real deal. We are a $5 million outdoor living contractor that has been around for more than ten years and worked with a ton of different agencies. Tom knows his stuff.

We have been working with Tom & his team and have seen amazing changes regarding our SEO and the influx of calls for business. We now rank much higher locally as a painting company and do not have to worry about my Google Business Profile missing any components. Tom implemented everything fast and in no time we saw results.

Tom and his team rebuilt my WordPress website, but more importantly they ranked my company in Google Maps and organic results. Let's be honest, I didn't care about marketing before — so what happened? Tom packed my schedule with new appointments, and my revenue is up 124% year-over-year.
